Visiting Kansas
When planning a spring or summer trip through the mid-west, don’t skip over Kansas – there’s more here than you might think. From Wichita to neighbors such as El Dorado, Newton, and Manhattan, home of the Kansas State University Wildcats athletics. You’ll find unique sites and attractions throughout the Sunflower State. There are a host of musical performances to check out – from Kid Rock, live on-stage at the INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita on February 10th, to Shinedown (with special guest Three Days Grace) on March 23rd at the same venue. Get ready to visit Kansas.
Head east and check out Kansas City. Home to the Kansas Speedway, and the Grinter State Historic Site, Kansas City is set along the border and offers a wide range of activities for you and the family. Visit the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts on February 14th and check out A Conversation with Carol Burnett – she’s fielding questions throughout the entire show.
Visit the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts on March 15th for a live rendition of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, one of Shakespeare’s classics. Make the drive in from nearby Lawrence or Olathe and enjoy the play.
If you’re a college basketball fan, make your way into Lawrence and visit the Allen Fieldhouse. Home to the University of Kansas Jayhawks basketball teams, don’t miss the action as they play the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs on February 23rd. The final home game of the season for the Jayhawks is March 4th, when they take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders, sure to be an exciting match up.
Make your way over to Topeka, the state capital, and visit the Topeka Performing Arts Center. You won’t want to miss out on Bill Cosby, performing live on-stage on February 16th. Be sure to visit the same venue on March 1st to see The Temptations perform, or March 7th, when country music icon Willie Nelson plays his hits – well worth the drive in from Emporia.
Venture west and explore pleasant cities like Greensburg or Dodge City. Take the kids for a tour of the Kansas Meteorite Museum, specializing in the Brenham Pallasite Meteorite. In Dodge City, head to the Sheridan Activity Center on February 2nd, for the Western Kansas Broadcast Center Dodge Ball Tournament – all proceeds benefit the local Humane Society.
On your excursion into Kansas, you can choose to head west and visit charming cities like WaKeeney or Scott City, or make your way to the heart of Kansas and visit Wichita, Topeka, or Kansas City – no matter where you wind up, you’re sure to make some memories.
