Founded in 1872, the city of McPherson is set in central Kansas along Interstate 135. The city was named for Civil War Union General James Birdseye McPherson – and visitors are encouraged to check out the life-size bronze likeness of the general residing in Memorial Park.
McPherson is a National Main Street Community, and has been considered one of the most livable small towns in America. McPherson's Main Street features more than 50 unique retail shops, and a wide range of restaurants and entertainment. In addition, a number of beautifully maintained public parks cover over 200 acres of McPherson.
