The busiest airport in the state, the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport (ICT) serves the city of Wichita, as well as surrounding areas in southern Kansas. Outside of the Kansas City International Airport – which is actually located in Missouri – ICT is the largest airport in Kansas, and supports major airlines like American, Delta, and United.

Wichita State University
Southern Kansas is home to one of the three research universities in the state. Wichita State University joins Kansas State University and University of Kansas, with this distinction. Wichita State University was established as Fairmount College, a private Congregational school, in 1886. By 1895, the school began offering collegiate classes. The name changed again in 1926, to Municipal University of Wichita, when it became a public non-denominational college. More than 14,000 students attend classes in the sixty undergraduate degree programs, within the six undergraduate colleges.
Students pursuing a master's degree have a choice of forty-four master's degree programs. Doctoral degrees are also available in chemistry, applied mathematics, psychology and engineering. Satellite campuses include Wichita State University West Campus in Maize, South Campus in Derby, Downtown Center in downtown Wichita and a dental clinic in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry, near main campus. Student athletes, the Wichita State Shockers, compete in NCAA Division 1 tennis, basketball, golf, cross-country, men's baseball and women's volleyball and softball.
