Kansas State University
Since 1863, students in the Manhattan area of northeast Kansas, have pursued a higher education. Kansas State University has attained the distinguished research university with high research (RU/H) classification, by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Learning. K-State, the oldest public university in Kansas, began as the Kansas State Agriculture College, a land-grant institution. More than 23,000 students attend the university in pursuit of bachelor, master and doctoral degrees, from the university's nine colleges and sixty-five academic departments.
The satellite campus, K-State Salina, is home to the College of Technology and Aviation. Tour the main campus to view historic Holtz Hall, built in 1876, as well as Anderson Hall, built between 1877 and 1885 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. While on campus, attend one of the many sporting events to cheer on the K-State Wildcats, as they compete in the Big 12 Conference.
