Visit the Fort Larned National Historic Site near Great Bend and see preserved forts from the Indian Wars period of the nation's history. A key post from 1859 to 1869, the fort provided protection and escort service to troops along the Santa Fe Trail.
Today's site consists of nine restored and one reconstructed building. Walk through a museum gallery which details the events of the fort's life before viewing history exhibits.
Highlights include the squad room in the fort barracks, the commissary and quartermaster storehouse, an officer's room, and a blacksmith demonstration.
