Allen Fieldhouse
Northeast Kansas college sports fans are in luck, in Lawrence. This fine city is home to Allen Fieldhouse, the indoor arena for the University of Kansas Jayhawks men's and women's basketball teams. The arena was completed in 1955 and named in honor of Dr. Forrest C. "Phog" Allen, a Kansas Jaykawks men's basketball coach. Throughout the years, Allen Fieldhouse has hosted thirty-seven National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament games. It remains a very prestigious building in college basketball.
In additional to college basketball games, the fieldhouse has hosted indoor track and field events, volleyball matches, National Basketball Association games and key-note speakers, such as former United States President Bill Clinton. Top-name music concerts hosted at the arena include, Elton John, Sonny and Cher, Alice Cooper, The Beach Boys, Tina Turner and ZZ Top. While in northeast Kansas, watch the Jayhawks play in the arena and be a part of the school tradition of singing the alma mater song, "Crimson and the Blue".
